All aboard for Christmas spirit! CP Holiday Train rolls into the Nickel City

Annual event featured donation to the food bank, live performance by Colin James, Emma-Lee

The CP Holiday Train rolled into Greater Sudbury on Nov. 29, bringing a gift for the Sudbury Food Bank, live musical performances and, of course, a whole lot of holiday spirit.

Juno Award-winning singer-songwriter Colin James and Toronto-born singer-songwriter Emma-Lee performed on the specially built stage that folds out of a train car.

Mayor Brian Bigger was on hand to welcome the train and the dozens of Sudburians who turned out to see it, as well as accept a $10,000 donation from CP to the local food bank.

Since 1999, the Holiday Train has raised more than CAD $13 million and 4 million pounds of food for North American food banks. Anything raised in a community stays in that community. In addition, CP makes donations at each stop.

While the event is free to the public, the public was asked to bring food or a monetary donation for the Sudbury Food Bank.

The Holiday Train is about 1,000 feet in length with 14 brightly decorated rail cars. Each car is decorated with hundreds of thousands of technology-leading LED lights and holiday designs.

Built originally in 1957, two GP20C 2200 series were rebuilt in 2013 to pull CP's two Holiday Trains. Each locomotive has 2,000hp, is 56.02 feet in length and weighs 275,000 pounds.
