All but one case of COVID-19 resolved in Sudbury, Manitoulin

All but one of the cases of COVID-19 reported in the Sudbury and Manitoulin districts have been resolved, among 12 active cases still under surveillance in Northeastern Ontario. 

Public Health Sudbury and Districts have identified 67 cases since the pandemic began, of which 64 have recovered, and two have died. A total of 16,796 tests have been conducted in the service area to determine these findings, of the 86,031 performed across the region. 

An additional 157 new cases of the virus were logged by health units across Ontario as of yesterday, along with 148 resolutions, seven deaths, and 23,759 tests. This update brings the total number of active cases to 2,052 of the 35,068 confirmed to date, following 30,344 resolutions, and 2,672 deaths. 

Of these active cases, 213 are currently hospitalized with COVID-19, including 42 in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 34 in ICU on a ventilator. 

Health Sciences North had none of these confirmed cases in its care as of June 30, but did report two unconfirmed cases in its ICU, along with six more in the care of other units. 

Included in the total number of active cases provincewide, are 316 confirmed cases among long-term care (LTC) residents and 184 LTC staff. These cases have been linked to 55 active outbreaks at Ontario LTC homes, none of which are located in the Sudbury, Manitoulin districts. 

Since the pandemic began, there have been 5,473 cases reported among LTC residents and 2,284 among LTC staff, leading to the deaths of 1,710 residents, and five health care workers. 

The total number of COVID-19 cases, recoveries, and deaths reported by health units across Northeastern Ontario at the time of this writing are as follows:

  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 67 cases, 64 recoveries, two deaths
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 36 cases, 29 recoveries 
  • Algoma Public Health: 24 cases, 24 recoveries 
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 18 cases, 18 recoveries
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 67 cases, 57 recoveries, 8 deaths
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 31 cases, 29 recoveries, one death 
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 90 cases, 88 recoveries, one death 

A total of 104,260 confirmed and 11 presumptive cases of COVID-19 have been reported across the country as of 1:43 p.m. on July 1, as well as 67,742 resolutions, and 8,615 deaths.

As of 5:48 p.m. July 1, there have been a combined 10,357,662 cases and 508,055 COVID-19 deaths reported from 216 countries, areas, and territories across the globe
