Green Economy North Awards celebrate successful first year

Green Economy North celebrated its successful first year with Green Gala at College Boreal on April 20.

The event brought businesses, environmental and community leaders together to celebrate sustainability in Sudbury.

Rebecca Danard, executive director of reThink Green, was very impressed with the nominations for the 2017 Environmental Champion.

"It was a real demonstration to us of how many dedicated individuals are leading change in our business community," Danard said.

"In the end, we decided we couldn't choose just one — and so we are awarding Environmental Champion to three amazing leaders."

2017 Environmental Champion award recipients are:

  • Melanie Cropp
  • Skye Little
  • Ricky Lemieux

Most Engaged Green Team was awarded to 176 Larch Street. Since joining Green Economy North, the landlords and tenants have been working collaboratively to improve the sustainability of the building in an innovative new model.

On hand to accept the award was landlord Al Vardy of Raintree Financial, Sandra Mews of Sandra Mews and Associates and Erica Lagios from Eat Local.

Sustainable Business of the Year was awarded to Towneplace Suites. General Manager Xavier Icardo accepted the award.
