Annual Hope in the City luncheon kicks off 2018 Christmas Kettle campaign in Sudbury

To get citizens in the spirit, Lougheed Foundation has pledged to match donations dollar for dollar up to $50K

More than 300 volunteers, community leaders and supporters of The Salvation Army attended the Hope in the City awareness luncheon at the United Steelworkers Hall on November 1.

In addition to raising awareness about services provided by the Sudbury Salvation Army, the following supporters were recognized with 2018 Community Support Awards: Glad Tidings Church, Kiwanis Sudbury, John Howard Society and Zoe and Kayla Daoust.

The 8th annual event kicks off this year's Christmas Kettle Campaign, one of Canada's largest and most recognizable charitable events.

To help Sudburians get into the giving spirit, the Lougheed family has generously pledged to match donations dollar for dollar up to $50,000 this year.
Services provided by Salvation Army in the Nickel City include help with meals, emergency shelter and chaplaincy.

"Thirty-six hundred volunteer hours are needed to make the kettle campaign in Sudbury a success," said Helen Ghent, Salvation Army Community Advisory Board Chair at the event.

Those interested in becoming a volunteer this year can fill out a form on the Salvation Army website, here, or call (705) 673-5893.
