The Lions Club of Sudbury has cancelled an annual fundraiser that raised more than $1 million over the years for local charities.

For 39 years, the Lions Club Elimination Draw has been a popular fundraiser for the club. The club told Sudbury.com it is proud to have never taken administrative fees out of the draw, funnelling every penny raised to support local groups and charities.

The draw has helped support the local CNIB, services and clubs for young people and supported students at all levels of education. The Elimination Draw was also a social event that included a meal at the Caruso Club and a charity casino in the lower hall.

The Lions hope the draw will be back next year.
