Public Health Sudbury & Districts (PHSD) has reported another COVID-19-related death in Greater Sudbury. The individual was a resident of Amberwood Suites retirement home, said a news release from PHSD Sunday afternoon.  The health unit said it offers sincere condolences to the family, friends, and caregivers affected by this loss and throughout this difficult time. Out of respect, no further details will be provided, said the news release.

The death will be reported in Public Health’s daily update of COVID-19 case data at 4 p.m. today. A total of nine deaths have now been reported across the Sudbury public health service area since the beginning of the pandemic.  The death was reported at the same time on Sunday that six new local cases of COVID-19 were revealed.
This is the sixth death attributed to the COVID-19 outbreak at Amberwood Suites that began in early January. This is the second COVID-19 death reported in Sudbury this weekend. On Saturday, PHSD reported that a resident at the Finlandia seniors' residence had died.

"The protection of our most vulnerable populations is of the utmost importance. Public Health Sudbury & Districts continues to work very closely with long-term care and retirement homes to ensure preventative measures and provincial directives related to safety remain in place to help protect residents and staff. Everyone is urged to continue following public health measures to protect others and stop the spread of COVID-19," said the release.
