Another demonstration against racism sparked by demonstrations in the U.S. is slated for noon today in downtown Sudbury.

What’s being called an “anti-brutality demonstration” will be held in Memorial Park to promote “equity and inclusiveness and condemning racism and police brutality,” a notice from Greater Sudbury Police said today.

After a demonstration in the park, police said participants informed them they will march from Memorial Park to the Bridge of Nations to the Sudbury Courthouse. Motorists should expect delays in the downtown core between 1-4 p.m. in the area of Brady Street, Paris Street and Elm Street.

GSPS will have officers in cruisers and on bicycles to protect the safety of those marching and help ensure the orderly flow of traffic.

“Communities everywhere are calling for justice. We are here to listen and to be part of the solution,” GSPS said. “We acknowledge and take responsibility for the role Police have played in systemic racism. Above listening, we are committed to taking action and working with our diverse communities to ensure that all peoples are treated with respect and dignity.”

Sudbury.com will be on hand to provide coverage.
