Attempted murder charges for assault on pedestrian last week

Victim was transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries said police. Two men, aged 28 and 40, are facing charges.

Ontario Provincial Police confirm that charges of attempted murder have been filed in connection with a pedestrian collision and subsequent assault that occurred last week on Highway 64 in the West Nipissing area.

Police said it was on Oct. 16, at 2:30 a.m., that members from the Nipissing West OPP Detachment responded to a 9-1-1 call on Highway 64, West Nipissing, involving a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.Police learned that a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle and then subsequently was assaulted by occupants of the vehicle. The suspects then took off before police arrived, said a news release.

The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital, with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries by Nipissing Paramedic Services, said police. 

As the result of an investigation carried out by police, two individuals from West Nipissing are facing charges. One is a 40-year-old male, the other is a 28-year-old

male. 

Police said the charges are as follows:

-Attempt to Commit Murder, contrary to section 239(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC),
-Uttering Threats - Cause death or Bodily Harm, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC,
-Assault with A Weapon, contrary to section 267(a) of the CC (two counts),
-Assault Causing Bodily Harm, contrary to section 267(b) of the CC (two counts),

Police said the the accused individuals will be appearing in court in North Bay.
