Autumnwood Mature Lifestyle Communities, which operates retirement homes in Sudbury, Timmins and North Bay, has announced enhanced screening protocols to help protect its residents from COVID-19.

This announcement fits with the pronouncement from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care that all Ontario retirement residences commence "active screen protocols" for all those who attend retirement residences in the province. Older adults, particularly those with chronic health conditions, are more susceptible to COVID-19 (and other illnesses).

“With the severity of the affect of COVID-19 being reported for the older adult population, the safety of our resident and tenants is our first priority," said Joe DiPietro, president and CEO of Autumnwood Mature Lifestyle Communities. "We thank you for your understanding and support as we work to prevent the spread of COVID-19 into our retirement residences.”

Autumnwood operates St. Mary's Gardens in Timmins, Marina Point in North Bay, and Red Oak Villa and Amberwood Suites in Sudbury.

The following protocols have been put in place:

  • Active screening protocols of all visitors, staff, external care providers, maintenance contractors, and other suppliers
  • Staff screening, reporting of risk protocol, reassignment and education to prevent any threat from, and to, staff and residents
  • Implementation of pandemic procedures, including inventory management and increased sanitation procedures in all common and private living spaces
  • Elimination of public attendance at social gatherings
  • Posting of available information to advise Residents, Tenants, Staff and Visitors about symptoms and how to protect themselves and others.
