If you're interested in receiving free backpacks and school supplies for your children, you're going to want to show up at Brady Storage Solutions during the evening of Aug. 22.
The second annual “Backpack Buddies of Sudbury” distribution of school supplies runs at Brady Storage Solutions (20 Brady St.) from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22.
Brady Storage Solutions, Our Children, Our Future and Cooper Equipment Rentals partnered in 2018 to help ensure that less fortunate children who live in our community can start the school year on the right foot with a backpack and school supplies.
The program's goal was to help more families in the community cope with the financial burden of the return to school in a few weeks and provide the children with the tools they need to succeed.
This partnership grew out of a successful pilot program, then having collected more than 240 backpacks and a tremendous amount of school supplies for local children.
In 2019, the program has collected close to 300 backpacks and the partners are looking at reaching a larger number of backpacks. The program is accepting donations right up to the distribution time.
Backpack Buddies of Sudbury was created in 2018 by Melanie Pelletier from Brady Storage Solutions in conjunction with Cooper Equipment Rentals and Our Children, Our Future to fill a growing need in our community.
This campaign alleviates some of the financial stresses associated with the return to school. It is estimated that families can spend hundreds of dollars preparing for the upcoming school year.
“This is a stress factor for many families and as a parent, you want to be able to provide your child with the items they need without setting yourself back in your day-to day financial commitments,” said campaign organizer Melanie Pelletier.
“We have been accepting donations for the last few months and we would like to send a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been so generous with donating to the Backpack Buddies program so far”.
“This drive was an overwhelming success last year and the community really appreciated the special initiative and all the benefits it brings to children in our community,” said Susan Nicholson, executive director at Our Children, Our Future.
“We are proud to work in partnership with Brady Storage Solutions, Cooper Equipment Rentals and with our community to aid families living in poverty to give children a memorable first day of school.
