Bear season: More sightings as hungry bruins leave their dens (Photos, video)

Send Sudbury.com photos, videos or locations you spot bears and help build our bear sightings map

Bear reports are starting to trickle into Sudbury.com as hungry bruins start to leave their dens to forage for food.

We’ve received four reports this week as the bear season begins. At Sudbury.com, we decided it would interesting to plot all the reports we receive on a map, and see which areas are getting the most wandering bruins.

We need your help to do that though. Bear photos, videos or even simply locations (“I saw a saw and three cubs on Attlee on Tuesday,” for example) would help us put that map together.

You can send reports, photos and video to [email protected], you can post them in the comments below the story, or share them with us on our Facebook page, Facebook.com/SudburyDotCom.

Below is a clip shared with Sudbury.com by reader Katherine Glen in the neighbourhood near Marymount Academy.

And remember, now is the time to be bear wise. Once bears learn your neighbourhood is a buffet, they’ll keep coming back for more.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry recommends removing all birdfeeders from your property at this time of year, as well as remembering to secure all garbage in containers and minimize odours and other attractants. I

It is also recommended that you not put garbage and recycling at the curb until the morning of garbage collection, again to cut down on odours and attractants and to prevent your street from being a smorgasbord for hungry bears.
