A bear was tranquillized at a New Sudbury housing complex Sunday.

Greater Sudbury Police Service were called to the complex — located at Lasalle Boulevard and Lansing Avenue — because of a complaint about two bears in the area.

By the time officers arrived, one bear was in a tree and the other bear had left the area. The bear did not exit the tree, and because of the high pedestrian traffic and the amount of young people in the area, the Ministry of Natural Resources was called in.

The MNR humanely tranquillized the bear and brought it to another location.

The bears appeared to have been attracted to the area by garbage at the rear of the housing complex, said police in a press release.
