Beautiful day to give thanks, says soup kitchen volunteer

Clients dig into hot turkey meal with all the trimmings

It was a beautiful day to share a beautiful meal with beautiful people, said Bob Johnston, a member of the Blue Door Soup Kitchen's public relations committee.

The soup kitchen served up hot turkey meals with all the trimmings to give thanks to their clients. At the end of the day, Johnston said, everyone is equal, regardless of what their story is.

Eileen John took the opportunity to have a turkey dinner. She visited the soup kitchen with her cousin, Buck Liepins.

“It's nice to have a turkey dinner with someone, otherwise, I'd be alone for Thanksgiving,” she said.

When she did live in Sudbury, the Samaritan Centre helped her out a lot.

“What a wonderful treat,” she said. “It's not that I'm starving, but I am a little bit hungry, and it's nice.”

Johnston said they expected to feed between 200 and 250 people.
