Big changes at City Centre mall

Mall owners Vista Hospital Company made the name change to reflect exciting changes at the shopping complex.

A news release indicates Rainbow Outlet Centre will be home to a mix of tenants who sell brand names and manufacturers clearance items at discount prices.

The company states it will be the only outlet centre in northeastern Ontario.

The retail mix will also include traditional retailers.

Vanna Shoes, which opened Aug. 29, is the first tenant in the new concept.

Shoppers will be able to enjoy a wide selection of styles at discount prices.

WhatÂ?s being called a Â?restaurant campusÂ? is also part of the revitalization.

ItÂ?s anticipated the entire Elm Street side of the building will be home to a variety of eating experiences.

Canton Chinese Foods is the first campus tenant. The restaurant is relocating from the Supermall.

Renovations at the Ramada Inn will soon turn the hotel into whatÂ?s described as a four-diamond property with business-class rooms.

Exterior renovations will improve entrance visibility and security.

Vista Hospital Group, meanwhile, continues to work with the city to establish a public-private partnership for a multi-use trade facility.

A city report on the matter is expected to be released this month.

In the interim the company has renovated the second floor of the former Eaton space into a temporary convention facility.

The first show will be the Â?WomenÂ?s FairÂ? put on by Community Connections, a newly formed marketing company.

Show booths are sold out and organizers expect to have 10,000 visitors between Sept. 20 and 22. Other shows have already been scheduled for this year and 2003.

Oasis Fitness and Wellness was under such pressure from its 1,000 members to open up early that the lights were turned on Aug. 15 instead of Sept. 1.

Hockey legend Eddie Shack will be the special guest at the grand opening ceremonies set for Monday, Sept. 16.

The mall continues to offer a free parking program for shoppers and unlimited free weekend parking.
