Hoping to generate some big ticket sales from a different age demographic, the festival has introduced The Big Show, a concert extravaganza scheduled for Thurs., July 4, at the Sudbury Arena.
The Vancouver-based act the Tea Party, a platinum-selling rock trio, will headline The Big Show in support of their most recent studio effort The Interzone Mantras.
Joining the Tea Party will be somewhat of a who?s who in the realm of Canadian mainstream rock music.
Edwin and the Pressure is Edwin?s latest musical endeavour. The former I Mother Earth vocalist shot up the Canadian rock charts with his solo album before recruiting the Pressure. Their first single Superhoney is currently in heavy radio and video rotation across Canada.
Other acts slated to appear include punk/pop diva Bif Naked, singer/songwriter Holly McNarland and the up-and-coming female rock group Live on Release.
According to NFLB executive director Murray Bowers, the festival received a $45,000-grant from the Ontario Cultural Attractions Fund (OCAF) in order to increase tourism in Greater Sudbury and generate more revenue for the festival.
?We are expanding our programming as a festival,? said Bowers. ?What this funding from OCAF provides to us is the expansion of programming into the alternative rock genre, which is something I don?t believe has ever been done by the Northern Lights Festival.?
