Greater Sudbury Mayor Brian Bigger will be travelling to Peru with the Federation of Canada Municipalities (FCM), as a part of the Sustainable and Inclusive Communities in Latin America Program (CISAL).

The CISAL program is designed to strengthen the capacity of local governments so that they can play a leadership role in building more sustainable and inclusive communities in areas influenced by mining activity.

Mayor Bigger will be sharing the City of Greater Sudbury’s history and ultimately its success story as the world’s most family friendly mining community, complete with a rich and diversified economy.

“I’m honoured to represent Greater Sudbury and Canada in Peru,” said Mayor Bigger. “I am very much looking forward to sharing our history, what we have learned, how we have diversified and our successes with a number of communities in Peru. We have a great deal to share.”

This trip, which is fully funded by Global Affairs Canada through the FCM and is of no cost to the citizens of Greater Sudbury, will showcase our community on the world stage.

During his visit from Jan. 23 - Feb. 4, Bigger will be making a presentation to a Chamber of Commerce as well as local municipal representatives, government officials and Mayors in the following areas in Peru:

  • Huaraz
  • Cajaycay
  • Raquia
  • Independencia
  • Taricá
  • Jangas

The Mayor will also participate in an FCM sponsored Mayor’s workshop and forum in Cusco with a number of other Mayors from Canadian municipalities and many of their counterparts from Peru and Colombia.
