Forty-eight passengers and three crew members were evacuated from an Air Canada plane en route to Sudbury from Toronto's Pearson International Airport on May 8, said the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.

Two tires on the left-side landing gear blew as the aircraft taxied for departure, said Eric Collard, spokesperson, Transportation Safety Board of Canada. Fire services was called and the passengers were evacuated.

Despite a report of a possible fire inside the plane, the TSB said there's no evidence of a fire.

“There were no injuries and no visible fire when firefighters arrived,” Collard said. “No extinguishing agents were applied.”

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada hasn't deployed investigators yet, however, that could change, Collard said.

“We're still assessing, and it's still very early in the process for us,” he said. “Depending on what that assessment finds, we could deploy to gather more information in the field. Our goal is to further transportation safety, so what that assessment finds will determine how much more involvement we will have.”

Every incident is different, and there's no standard timeframe for how long the assessment will take, Collard said.
