Algonquin Road Public School parents will have the opportunity to receive information and ask questions at two meetings set for today.

Parents are invited attend the meetings at 1 pm and at 7 pm at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School.

"The two meetings will offer an opportunity for parents to receive information and ask questions of school and board staff. We decided to have two meetings to accommodate different working schedules of our Algonquin parents," says Gord Ewin, director of education for the Rainbow District School Board. Algonquin Road Public School students will catch their buses at the same stops they usually go to on Wednesday morning, as classes resume.

Questions concerning busing are to be directed to the Sudbury Student Services Consortium at 521-1234. The consortium advises that there will be bus transfers for some students enroute to their new school locations. To help facilitate this, Algonquin teachers will be on the buses for the first few days of this process. Home drop-off times at the end of the school day will fluctuate somewhat.

Students who used to walk to the south end school will continue do so in order to take a bus to their temporary designated schools.

"We are working to make sure that this period of transition is as simple as possible for our Algonquin students and parents," says Ewin.

The board announced Friday that four alternate locations have been established while Algonquin is repaired from a fire on

Thursday afternoon, when 277 students were safely evacuated from the building.

Repair work at Algonquin is expected to take at least two months to complete.

Algonquin students attending the secondary school buildings of Lockerby and Lo-Ellen will be clustered together while Algonquin is being repaired.

A school-day schedule for Algonquin students will be established at

Lo-Ellen and Lockerby. Algonquin students at the elementary schools, Beattie and Long Lake, will also have their own classrooms and will follow the schedules of those elementary schools.

Report cards for Algonquin students, previously planned for distribution later this month, will be delayed.

Several people called the board to donate to Algonquin. Donations to replace school supplies lost in the fire may be given at Long lake Public School, 4420 Long Lake Road, or at Cyril Varney Public School, 1545 Gary Street.

Beginning, Wednesday, the four temporary locations are:

Â? Long Lake Public School, 4420 Long Lake Road: For Junior Kindergarten and Senior Kindergarten;
Â? R. L. Beattie Public School, 102 Loach's Road: For Grade 1, and Grade 2-3;
Â? Lockerby Composite School, 1391 Ramsey View Court: Grade 3-4, Grade 4
and Grade 5;
Â? Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School, 275 LoachÂ?s Road: Grade 6, Grade 7 and
Grade 8.

"Teachers will be making calls to parents during the day (Tuesday). The teachers will either speak directly to parents or leave messages concerning the new locations," Ewin says.

Those parents or guardians who don't receive a call and who need more information may call 522-6168.
