In its third year, the fundraiser has so far brought in $10,000 for the Janis Foligno Foundation.
It's named in memory of Janis Foligno — the wife of Mike Foligno, the former coach of the Sudbury Wolves and current assistant coach of the NHL's New Jersey Devils — who passed away from breast cancer in 2009.
Over the years, the foundation has raised about $400,000 for causes Janis Foligno supported, with much of its focus on breast cancer.
Moutsatsos said she and Janis Foligno went to school together, and she created Boobies, Burgers and Beer as a way to honour her friend and help others living with cancer.
Until the end of July, $2 from every burger ordered at Pat and Mario's will go towards the Janis Foligno Foundation.
Those purchasing burgers will also have their names entered into a weekly draws for prizes donated by the Foligno family.
Patrons are also invited to take a picture of their burgers, and post them on either the Pat and Mario's or Janis Foligno Foundation's Facebook pages for a chance to win another prize.
The Foligno family — including Mike Foligno's sons, Marcus and Nick, both NHL players — are also planning a “celebrity” night at the restaurant, drawing on their NHL connections. The date for this evening has yet to be announced.
Mike Foligno said he's really thankful to be working with the Moutsatsos family on the fundraiser.
“They're special people,” he said.
He said the proceeds from this year's fundraiser will go towards breast cancer research and those who are stricken with the disease.
The need is clear, Foligno said.
“Twenty-four thousand women this year alone will be diagnosed with breast cancer,” he said.
