Bouncy castles a hit at YMCA’s Strong Kids Launch

YMCA launches Strong kids campaign to support local families to participate in their programs

The scene at YMCA was that of happy chaos today as children bounced from one activity to other at the official launch of Strong Kids Campaign.

At the entrance, a spread of baked goods enticed some children while some were happy competing in an obstacle course in the gym.

“We want to support our community by inviting all families to participate in the fun and games today,” Kendra Maclsaac, Health Fitness and Aquatics general manager said.

Every year, the YMCA hosts events to assist children in low-income families to participate in the YMCA programs and services.

With the Olympic-themed strong kids event this year, they hope to surpass the $230,000 that they raised last year.

“As of right now we have $60,000, so we have a long way to go, but I am sure with the community support we can beat last year’s goal,” Maclsaac said.

Keeping with the Olympic theme, the activities featured relay races, ping pong, squash and swimming.

“Bouncy castle is not a sport, but it is hit every year, so we included that as well,” Maclsaac said.

“Children just love bouncy castles, it’s hard to pull them away,” Roxanne Shebtschuk, mom of two, said.

The children seemed to agree on the bouncy castle for the most part.

“I liked that I could go swimming,” Alana Shebtschuk said.

While the event was free for all to attend, a donation to the Strong Kids Campaign was encouraged.
