A Sudbury teenager died Saturday after falling into a section of Junction Creek.

Police have yet to release the name of the victim, who was allegedly playing along side of the creek early Saturday afternoon, when he fell in.

Staff Sergeant Todd Marassato said Greater Sudbury Police received a call for assistance in the Louis Street area, off Notre Dame Avenue, at 2:45 Saturday afternoon.

When police arrived, they were told the youth was last seen being carried downstream by a strong current brought on by heavy rain.

Police, Sudbury Fire, Sudbury E.M.S. and the Helicopter Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police attended the area to search for the youth. The intensive search eventually stretched from the site of the incident, down the entire length of the creek, to Regent Street.

At 5:50 p.m., the youth was located in the creek and transported by E.M.S. to St. Joseph’s Health Centre, where he was pronounced dead.

Greater Sudbury Police say more information will be released later today, Monday.
