Residents are invited to attend Cambrian Heights Spirit Day, free of charge, this Sunday, June 3, between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. to celebrate the grand opening of the walk and roll Ryan Heights Accessible Playground, located at 736 Bruce Ave., Sudbury.

Spirit Day activities will include a free barbecue and donations of household items hosted by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a look at the coming growing season with the Flour Mill Community Farm, and displays of emergency services vehicles and equipment.

"A lot of wonderful people live in the social housing complexes that make up most of the high density area, but the public image has not been the best over the years," said Ward 5 Coun. Robert Kirwan in a news release.

"I am working with some passionate volunteers at this time who are committed to changing that image and improving the quality of life for all residents."

A ribbon cutting to officially open the Ryan Heights Accessible Playground will begin at noon.

Transformation of the Ryan Heights playground to a bright, fun and inclusive play environment has been made possible by the Government of Canada’s Enabling Accessibility Fund and the City of Greater Sudbury’s Healthy Community Initiative Fund.

"If you haven’t been to the park since last summer, you will be absolutely impressed with the way the entire park has been cleared of the heavy underbrush that covered the southern and western portions of the grounds," said Kirwan.

"It is all cleared and will be landscaped over the next couple of years. But it is already an amazing transformation."
