An online petition signed by 111 people so far supports the idea of bringing a splash pad to the community of Copper Cliff.

The Change.org petition, started by Lisa Demmer, said the Copper Cliff Community Action Network (CAN) is requesting funding through the city's Healthy Community Initiative (HCI) Fund to bring the facility to the Copper Cliff Park.

It would be operated by the City of Greater Sudbury, the petition said.

“Splash pads provide a free, accessible and safe place for children and families,” said the petition.

“Splash pads are suitable for children of all ages to use, including infants and toddlers. They also provide children with disabilities with a place to participate in water play and interact with other children.

“All children will benefit physically, socially, psychologically and cognitively. The splash pad will also provide opportunities for families in the community to meet and strengthen the community support system for parents and children.

“Please sign this petition in support of bringing a splash pad to our community of Copper Cliff for all of our families to enjoy!”

Several people who signed the petition also left comments in support of the idea.

“I have two children and we love Copper Cliff, but I dislike having to drive all over the city to splash pads, sometimes we just can't,” said Grace Dempsey.

“I'd love for my kids and I to be able to walk to a local splash pad with my fellow community members.”
