The city is warning residents of Val Caron, Blezard valley, Azilda and Chelmsford to be on the look-out for discoloured or low pressure water following the break of a major watermain under municipal road 80.
As a result of closing the watermain, or by redirecting the flow, residents may notice red water because of high iron content. While not aesthetically pleasing, there are no health risks associated with the discolouration although it will stain laundry.
City officials do not know at this point when the main will be fixed as crews scrambled last night to pump the leaking water out from the road.
During this time, the city is asking residents to conserve water. If drinking water is required, bottled water has been made available for pick up at the Valley East Fire Station. Residents unable to access water at the station can call 560-2022.
