The Walden Cross-Country Fitness Club is hosting a couple of events this weekend.

Starting at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, girls aged eight to 18 years old interested in competitive sports are invited to take part in the Fast and Female Champ Chat at the Naughton Community Centre.

Founded by former Canadian National Ski Team member and Olympic gold medallist Chandra Crawford in 2005, the Fast and Female organization’s mission is to support, motivate, inspire, and empower girls to stick to sports and the healthy lifestyle.

A number of guest speakers will take part in the event, including Northern Ontario athletes Fiona Shae Maude, Emily Jago, Emily Marcolini, Jessica Brugess and Laura Williams.

The event also includes a physical literacy fitness circuit, yoga/dance party and autographs.

Registration costs $30 until midnight Jan. 19, and $35 on the day of the event (if there's still room).

On Sunday, Jan. 22, the Walden Cross-Country Fitness Club hosts the annual Wooly Hippo Invitational cross-country ski race.

Kicking off at 11 a.m., the event includes skiers of all ages and abilities.

Registration closes at midnight Jan. 20. Visit www.waldenxc.ca/registration.
