Cambrian College and Northern Ontario were among the benefactors of last week?s announcement that the province is investing $37 million in Ontario?s apprenticeship system, $6 million of which is designated to the expansion of the Co-op Diploma Apprenticeship Program.

Cambrian College will receive $2.8 million over two years to support its existing co-op apprenticeship programs and to expand its offerings to include Tool and Die Machining.

?We currently offer four apprenticeship programs in the co-op format ? Millwright, Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Industrial Instrumentation Mechanic, and Industrial Electrician,? said Michel Barbeau, Dean of Cambrian?s School of Skills Training/SkyTech.

?The $2.8 million will enable us to add to our roster of co-op programs and to enhance our current offerings. It will also enable us to partner with Northern College in Timmins and Confederation College in Thunder Bay to offer these programs in the co-op model in the communities that the two colleges serve. It is widely known that there is shortage of qualified skilled trades workers in Canada.?
