Cambrian College’s Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting students were able to give generously to those in need after raising $7,063.55 through their annual Walk for a Smile fundraiser and oral health awareness campaign.
The funds raised each year are used to purchase preventative oral health care supplies and services for individuals who face challenges in accessing them.
The original goal for this year‘s campaign was $3,000, but thanks to the dedicated efforts of the students and the generosity of the many people who supported the campaign, three separate organizations received much-welcomed donations.
St. Gabriel’s Villa, a local long-term residence, received $2,000, which will be used to purchase dental products and to support seniors who are in need of dental treatment, but who are experiencing financial barriers. The funds will also allow these individuals to access the dental care they require without having to leave the facility.
The Corner Clinic, a community outreach centre, was presented with a cheque for $2,000, which will be used to provide dental health services to low-income and homeless individuals, and to those who are at risk of becoming homeless.
The third recipient of the funds that were raised this year was Cambrian College’s Student Food Bank, which is operated by the Students’ Administrative Council (SAC).
The cheque in the amount of $2,083.51 will be used to purchase necessary food items for those students who struggle financially.
The remaining $980.04 of the money raised was used to provide oral hygiene supplies for Dental Health Programs community outreach projects.
