Cambrian College President Sylvia Barnard and Pro-Vice Chancellor (International) Christopher Madden from Griffith University in Queensland, Australia have signed an advanced standing agreement.

The agreement will facilitate student mobility between the institutions and will enhance the credentials for graduates of Cambrian?s diploma, graduate, and applied baccalaureate degree programs.

The advanced standing agreement formally recognizes credits from Cambrian College?s two- and three-year diploma programs and provides an opportunity for graduates of these programs to obtain an undergraduate Bachelor degree at Griffith University. Griffith will grant students full credits for all appropriate courses taken at Cambrian.

In addition, Cambrian students who have a previous university degree and who complete a Cambrian College graduate program, may be granted up to one semester of advanced standing toward a related Griffith University postgraduate Master?s degree. As well, graduates of Cambrian College?s applied studies degree programs who meet the necessary entry criteria, may be accepted into a related Master?s program at Griffith University.

Cambrian is offering its first applied baccalaureate degree program in the fall of 2006. The four-year Bachelor of Applied Technology ? Science and Technological Education degree program will focus on applied science and mathematics, on transferable knowledge of integrated systems, production cycles and environments, and on fostering an understanding of the broad contexts and the inter-relatedness of various technologies.

?We are delighted to be partnering with Griffith University,? said Cambrian President Sylvia Barnard. ?This is a perfect example of how educational institutions are working together to combine the strength of colleges and universities. Through these agreements, we are providing students with a seamless education, encouraging continuous learning, and ensuring that students have a full array of educational choices.?

?This partnership is of great value to Griffith University,? said Chris Madden. ?It is an excellent chance to strengthen our ties with Canadian postsecondary institutions and to create new opportunities for Canadian students to study at Griffith University in Australia, in its campuses in Brisbane and the Gold Coast.?
