Paying for their college education has become a little easier for approximately 300 students at Cambrian College.

They were the recipients of 350 awards and bursaries totaling $300,000 distributed at the Cambrian College Foundation 36th Annual Awards Reception.

The Foundation’s Annual Awards Reception brings together students, faculty and staff, and the Foundation’s donors, to celebrate achievement and support students.

“The bursary I received will enable me to return to the Millwright program next September,” said Kendra Liinamaa.

“I am able to put this money toward my tuition, as well as offset the cost of tools I require for my program. What is so special about my bursary is that it is not only alleviating my financial stress, but also includes a summer apprenticeship with my donor’s company. This is an incredible weight off my shoulders. It is so exciting knowing I will be gaining experience in my field and hours toward my apprenticeship. I can’t thank my donor enough.”

The amount of bursaries distributed by the Foundation is made possible through the generosity of donors, some of whom are alumni or have other strong connections to Cambrian College. They all share a common goal to see students succeed.

“It is such a pleasure to connect with so many of our donors each year,” said Brandi Braithwaite, Cambrian Foundation’s Director of Development. “Seeing them connect with the students they have supported, and watching them share stories of hardship, success and excellence is truly amazing.”

“Students are critical our future successes and it is imperative that we all recognize this and support them in whatever capacity we can,” said Rob Brouillette, owner of City Welding in Sudbury. “As the current owner, and on behalf of my father Georges and my mother Gisele who started City Welding over 45 years ago, we are honoured to play a small part in recognizing the importance of students to our company, and our society in general.”

The Cambrian College Foundation exists to champion the college, and to enhance the student experience and learning environment through its awards program and capital initiatives, as well as the procurement of equipment and services that promote a vibrant campus community.
