Cambrian honours student award winners

Exceptional graduates lauded for their academic excellence

During Cambrian College’s 49th Convocation ceremonies, held June 1-2, three exceptional graduates were honoured for their academic excellence and contributions to Cambrian and the community.

The President’s Gold and Silver Awards are presented annually to two graduating students who have achieved academic excellence and made significant contributions to the College and the community. The Gold Award is accompanied by a scholarship valued at $2,000 and the Silver Award by a scholarship valued at $1,500.

Gold Award Winner: Zhihui Fu
Zhihui (Elaine) Fu is a graduate of the Civil Engineering Technology program and is a dedicated student, outstanding ambassador, and tireless volunteer. During her time at Cambrian, she worked as a student researcher on innovative projects with industry partners and faculty, and she also acted as a student ambassador to visiting dignitaries and prospective students. Fu also extended a warm welcome to international students, making them feel at home in Sudbury and at Cambrian. She has done an exemplary job balancing her family life, volunteer activities, and academics, including earning perfect grades in the two most difficult math courses in her program.

Silver Award Winner: Jesse Patterson
Jesse Patterson is a graduate of the Heating, Air Conditioning, and Ventilation (HVAC) program who led his class academically and devoted countless hours assisting his classmates and helping to set up the new HVAC lab, all while balancing personal and family commitments. Patterson’s leadership skills, positive attitude, and enthusiasm for learning made him a model student. He also contributed to the college by participating in public speaking engagements in support of his program and by assisting with promotions for the Cambrian College Foundation.

The Governor General’s Academic Medal is awarded each year to the graduating student with the highest average in a diploma program.

Governor General’s Academic Medal: Angela Marie Addante
Angela Marie Addante is a graduate of the Developmental Services Worker program who earned a 97.4-per-cent average, which is an outstanding achievement. Addante enrolled at Cambrian as a mature student and completed her studies online while raising a young toddler. Addante’s organizational skills, discipline, empathy, and attention to detail have all contributed to her academic success. She plans to continue her educational journey by pursuing a degree in Disability Studies.

“Cambrian College is pleased to congratulate each of these high-calibre graduates on their achievements and wishes to thank them for demonstrating strong dedication to their studies and to the community,” said a press release.
