Cambrian College and one of the countryÂ?s largest hotel chains have signed a unique partnership agreement that will ensure students have good summer jobs for years to come.

The college signed a deal Tuesday with Royal Host Hotels and Resorts that will give first-year hospitality students the opportunity for summer employment.

This collaboration will not only provide summer employment at any of the 39 Royal Host Hotels and Resorts across Canada, but also career opportunties for graduates of CambrianÂ?s Hotel and Restaurant Management program.

Â?We are really pleased we are able to partner with the Royal Host family,Â? said Sylvia Barnard, president of Cambrian College.

Students benefiting from this collaboration are currently enrolled in such program as baking and pastry arts, hospitality services training, chef training and restaurant management.

Â?We are truly excited to be able to contribute to the ongoing success of CambrianÂ?s already excellent hotel and restaurant management program,Â? said Guy Jeans, executive vice president, hotel operations for Royal Host Hotels and Resorts. Â?This is an exciting opportunity for our company and the hotel industry to contribute to shaping tomorrowÂ?s hospitality leaders.Â?

Royal Host Hotels and Resorts was established in Alberta in 1974 by the Royer family. Over the next 11 years, the Royer family built 27 additional hotels and are now a well-known name in the hotel and resort industry.

Royal Host Hotels and Resorts are now located all over Canada and in parts of the United States.

Both Cambrian College and Royal think this will be a good experience.

Â?(ItÂ?s a) big opportunity for us, that we are looking forward to,Â? Jeans said.

This collaboration will also support current students and their studies through the establishment of a bursary to be awarded yearly to a student enrolled in a hospitality program.

Â?The strength of a college education is the link with and support from industry that is an integral part of a college credential,Â? Barnard said. Â?I would like to commend Royal Host Hotels and Resorts for their insight, support, and investment in Cambrian students and in the future of the hospitality
program.
