Cambrian R&D is reaching a “new low” when it comes to the content on The Unlikely Innovators podcast.

The latest instalment of The Unlikely Innovators will be hosted at SNOLAB, two kilometres beneath the surface at Vale’s Creighton Mine in Greater Sudbury.

“We don’t mind saying we’re sinking to new depths on this podcast,” said Mike Commito, director of Cambrian R&D, the applied research division of Cambrian College. “We don’t know if this is a world record for the deepest underground podcast, but it’s sure going to be hard to beat.”

The Unlikely Innovators podcast at SNOLAB was recorded Feb. 3 with special guest Jodi Cooley, SNOLAB’s new Executive Director and an award-winning physicist.

The conversation will cover everything from Cooley’s career to the groundbreaking work happening at SNOLAB. The episode will air later this month.

“I am always proud to talk about the people and the science that make SNOLAB a standout research centre in Canada, and around the world,” said Cooley. “There’s a lot of innovative work being done at SNOLAB, and I am thrilled that Mike and Steve are taking an interest in it.”

Co-hosted by Steve Gravel, manager of Cambrian R&D’s Centre for Smart Mining, The Unlikely Innovators podcast features various guests who explore different themes and aspects of innovation.

“We’ve lined up a great guest and we’re looking forward to a wonderful, in-depth and fun discussion about physics, including, hopefully, a nebulous conversation about dark matter,” said Gravel. “It is always amazing to hear what innovation means to our guests and how it plays out in the work they do.”
