Sunshine List municipal: CAO Ed Archer top paid public employee for the City of Greater Sudbury

Archer was paid $287,700 last year, followed by city’s top cop, Chief Paul Pedersen

City of Greater Sudbury CAO Ed Archer was the highest paid municipal employee last year, according to the province's annual sunshine list released Friday.

Archer, who became CAO in May 2016, was paid $287,700.30 and $10,689.52 in taxable benefits last year, according to information from the Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, which provides salary details for every provincial and municipal bureaucrat who makes more than $100,000.

There are 593 people on the Sunshine List under the Municipalities and Services for Greater Sudbury, compared to 527 in 2019. The total salaries of Sunshine Listers for Municipalities and Services is $71,579,666.

Greater Sudbury Police Chief Paul Pedersen is next on the Sunshine List, having been paid $265,664.80 in 2020 and $16,494.24 in taxable benefits.

Kevin Fowke, general manager of Corporate Services, was next, having been paid $237,347 in 2020

Anthony Ceccuti, general manager, growth and infrastructure, is next on the list, having been paid $236,936.98 and $10,689.52 in taxable benefits in 2020.

Greater Sudbury Police Deputy Chief Sheila Weber was paid $216,695.60 and $14,749.55 in taxable benefits last year.

Greater Sudbury Police CAO Sharon Baiden was next on the list. She was paid $216,590.40 and $14,778.12 in taxable benefits last year.

Steve Jacques, general manager of community development of the city, was next on the list. He  was paid $210,545.39 and $10,209.08 in taxable benefits last year.

Joseph Nicholls, general manager of community safety, was paid $199,373.34 and $4,117.93 in taxable benefits last year.

Ed Stankiewicz, executive director, finance, assets, fleet, was next. He was paid $196,718.24 last year and $11,0006.13 in taxable benefits.

Mark Gobbo, platoon chief, City of Greater Sudbury Fire Services, was paid $192,899.30 last year and $766.51 in taxable benefits.

While he wasn’t among the top 10 earners in Municipalities and Services, Mayor Brian Bigger was paid $181,504.26 and $10,467.60 in taxable benefits.

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act applies to the provincial government, Crown agencies and corporations, Ontario Power Generation and subsidiaries, publicly funded organizations such as hospitals, municipalities, school boards, universities and colleges, and not-for-profit organizations that meet a funding threshold.
