ItÂ?s the gig of a lifetime for local singer Cheryl Cerri.

The talented entertainer has been picked to sing the opening song This is Our Home at the Canada Day noon-hour TV show broadcast live from Parliament Hill.

The program will be seen on CBC (Ch. 9, Cable 8) and Newsworld (Cable 14) as well as French CBC.

Cerri said it is a big honour for her to have been selected by the network for the coast-to-coast telecast.

Sudbury MP Diane Marleau approached Heritage Minister Sheila Copps some time ago and recommended Cerri for the show.

Organizers Â?said youÂ?ve been requested by several ministers to come and sing on Canada Day and weÂ?ve given you the most prestigious spot, the opening of the television show,Â? said Cerri.

She will be going to Ottawa a couple of days in advance for rehearsals.

Â?I want to make the best of it,Â? said Cerri, who admitted to being more than a little nervous.

Â?For me to be able to do this is a huge privilegeÂ?they say thereÂ?s going to be 100,000 people there.Â?

While the onstage performers wonÂ?t be paid, the network is covering travel and accommodation expenses.
