The Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce (GSCC) is calling on the provincial government to collect better labour market information and to restore secret-ballot voting for the union certification process.

The chamber introduced the two new resolutions last month at Ontario Chamber of Commerce’s  Annual General Meeting, and Convention held in Hamilton.

The first resolution - Strengthening Labour Market Information for Business Competitiveness -  urges the government to collect a detailed labour market information, to ensure that stakeholders can address the skills mismatch.

Meanwhile, the second resolution, Increasing Democracy in Ontario’s Workplaces, aims to ensure the fairness of the process when workers decide to unionize.

Both of the resolutions received the support of the delegates from chambers across Ontario who were in attendance and have now become the official policy of the OCC.

All resolutions receiving the support of the delegates at the convention become the official policy of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and will be pursued by the chamber network with the provincial government in the coming months and years.

GSCC was also recognized with the Chair’s Award for its demonstrated success in operations, member services, and community leadership.
