Tonight, Greater Sudbury city councillors finally put their cards on the table, officially, when it comes to where the city's new event centre will be located.

The debate has been heated and divisive, particularly in the past week or two.

Ahead of the vote, the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce has issued a statement lauding the passion of everyone on both sides of the debate, but also urging everyone to respect each other's point of view.

"Whether you think the event centre should go on The Kingsway or in the downtown, we at the chamber know that it's the entrepreneurs and their vision for the future behind both sites that have made Greater Sudbury what it is today," the statement reads, in part.

"Those entrepreneurs have take time to co-ordinate and advocate for their visions, time that was taken away from their businesses, families and friends. And this was all done for the same reason — to make our city a better place to live, work and play.

"We applaud anyone that has the passion to pursue their vision. So please, have an opinion, but respect the other site. That just makes good business sense."

Last week, the chamber formally backed the plan for a downtown event centre.
