The City of Greater Sudbury has handed out the annual arts and culture grants that help support the work of local artists and artistic groups. The total grant amount distributed was $532,554, which was disbursed to 32 recipients in various artistic, cultural and creative disciplines.

Funding under the grant program is administered annually by the Greater Sudbury Development Corporation (GSDC).

“Historically, each dollar invested under the grant program generates an annual return of $7.85 in other funding and revenues raised,” the city said in a news release. “Applications are evaluated based on artistic/cultural merit, organizational/financial health and community benefit.”

Applications for the 2022 Arts and Culture Grant program are now open. You can find guidelines and application forms here.

“Past applicants should note that the program guidelines and the assessment process have been updated,” the city stated in a news release.

“We are all eager to be together as a community again for festivals, galleries, theatres, arts and culture experiences that allow us to experience the rich diversity in Greater Sudbury. Pre-COVID, thousands of people attended public activities hosted by recipients of the Arts and Culture Grant program,” said GSDC Board Chair Lisa Demmer.

The deadline for 2022 submission is Feb. 3, 2022. Allocation of funding is dependent on final passage of the 2022 municipal budget.

If you’ve never applied for the grant before or have questions, the city is hosting an online information sessions where you can have your questions answered. The sessions will be held on Dec. 9 at 10 a.m. for those applying for operating grants and 12 p.m. for those applying for project grant. The link will be posted at InvestSudbury.ca/ArtsandCulture.

“On behalf of council, I want to extend my thanks to the organizations, artists and volunteers who dedicate themselves to lifting people’s spirits, especially during these challenging times,” said Greater Sudbury Mayor Brian Bigger in a news release.
