The City of Greater Sudbury is hosting its 4th Greater Sudbury Volunteer Picnic June 6 at Memorial Park.

The Saturday picnic runs from noon to 4:30 pm.

The event, which will take place rain or shine, will include games, activities, live entertainment and refreshments for the whole family. Performers at the event will include: Acoustic Freedom, Dolores Dagenais, Jumper the Clown, Mary and Rags, Myths & Mirrors, Sampo Rhythmic Gymnastics Club, Scott Mitchell and Shane Flamand.

?The Greater Sudbury Volunteer Picnic is a way to say thank you to the many individuals and groups who generously donate their time and talent to make our community a better place to live,? said Mayor David Courtemanche, in a press release.

?Volunteers are the heart of greater Sudbury. They make things happen at every level of our society. And they remind us of the importance of reaching out to others to give something of ourselves.?

Lori Henri, Greater Sudbury community development officer, explained everyone who is a volunteer in the city is welcome to come.

?While some of the people in attendence may receive an invitation, the picnic is for all of Greater Sudbury?s volunteers,? Henri said. ?Even if it?s just walking a dog for a neighbour, come on out.?

Numerous local charities and non-profit organizations helped to organize the event, which is sponsored by the City of Greater Sudbury and the Royal Bank Financial Institute.

The Greater Sudbury Volunteer Picnic began in 2000, the year of the volunteer.
