City manager Tony Cecutti has received the Municipal Engineers Association Award, which was announced at the group's annual general meeting in Thunder Bay last week.
The award recognizes an engineer who has contributed significantly to municipal engineering in the technical, educational or community service field, the city said in a news release.
Recipients are “commemorated for outstanding service to their community, their enhancement of the image of municipal engineering, and their record of long-term service in the profession.”
“I would like to congratulate Tony on receiving such recognition from his peers, and in receiving this award,” Mayor Brian Bigger Greater is quoted as saying in the release. “The Municipal Engineers Association is an organization that certainly recognizes all that is being accomplished in the City of Greater Sudbury.”
Cecutti, the city's general manager of infrastructure services, has worked as a consulting engineer, water and environmental group lead, and trailblazer for the design and construction of numerous water and wastewater treatment projects in Greater Sudbury, Espanola and communities across Ontario. He joined the city in August 2012.
Outside of work, Cecutti is a strong promoter and supporter of the engineering profession. He helped found and run the local Professional Engineer Chapter (PEO), culminating as the chair. He has organized numerous events to promote the PEO and spearheaded initiatives to support local charities and spread awareness of professional engineers.
“I congratulate Tony on this well-deserved award,” city CAO Ed Archer said in the release. “He plays a key leadership role in our organization and regularly demonstrates his willingness to provide advice to city council that has residents' — and the community's — long-term interests in mind. He is a passionate leader and innovator, and a great colleague.
“It's fantastic to see the MEA recognize the value of his contributions to the municipal sector with this award.”
The MEA is an association of public sector professional engineers in the full time employment of Ontario municipalities and provincial agencies performing the various functions that comprise the field of municipal engineering.
Their mission is to provide unity and focus for licensed engineers employed by Ontario’s municipalities through addressing issues of common concern and by facilitating the sharing of knowledge and information.
