Close to 400 people take part in Santa Shuffle

Run supports the Salvation Army’s programs in Sudbury

Red Santa hats were all the rage Saturday morning as close to 400 people participated in the eighth annual Santa Shuffle to support the Salvation Army’s programs in Sudbury.

The crowd braved a chilly winter morning walk, run or shuffle in the one-kilometre ‘elf walk, or the five-kilometre Santa Shuffle.

“This is about awareness,” said Karen Hoeft, executive director of the Salvation Army’s New Life Centre in Sudbury.

While the event isn’t the Salvation Army’s biggest fundraiser locally, it helps raise awareness about its presence in the community.

Hoeft said funds raised Saturday will help support the men’s and women’s shelters in Sudbury, along with along with community programming.

The family-friendly event attracts people of all ages and running skill levels.
