The end of February – it’s cold, it’s dark and winter is showing little evidence of wrapping up for another season.

On Saturday, Feb. 22, The Samaritan Centre will be hosting its 9th Annual "Coldest Night of the Year" (CNOY) event. CNOY is an annual winter fundraising walk to benefit the work of The Samaritan Centre and other charities just like it across the country.

The Samaritan Centre is recruiting teams now for its biggest fundraiser of the year which aims to raise funds and increase awareness of issues surrounding poverty and homelessness in Sudbury. The Samaritan Centre encourages walkers to form teams and raise money through pledges at the www.cnoy.org.

The Samaritan Centre is a multi-agency facility located at 344 Elgin Street. We hold space for partner agencies who are made up of the Blue Door Soup Kitchen, Elgin Street Mission and Corner Clinic.

In addition, The Samaritan Centre offers shower and laundry facilities, a clothing room, weekly haircut services and an Extreme Cold Weather Alert Warming Centre.

From 300-400 people utilize The Samaritan Centre each day which indicates that an average of 146 000 people come through our facility each year.

“We are a well-loved, well-used facility and as such we are showing our age in dog years,” said executive director Lisa Long.

The goal for this year’s Coldest Night of the Year Walk is $70,000 in pledges and corporate sponsorship.

Funds raised will help the Samaritan Centre run its facility and keep overhead costs low which in turn benefits the associated charities that operate through it.

Consider leading or joining a team for Coldest Night of the Year or perhaps becoming a corporate sponsor by heading to the event's website.

You can find The Samaritan Centre on all the socials and give them a like or follow on Facebook at Samaritan-Centre or Instagram at thesamaritancentre.
