With a tentative deal reached with the province around dinner time Tuesday, full-time faculty at Cambrian College can take the rest of the Spring break off, away from a picket line.

Negotiators representing college management and the Ontario Public Sector Employees Union (OPSEU) reached a deal that will work out to a 7.3 per cent pay increase over two years.

The agreement covers unionized faculty at all of Ontario?s 24 colleges of applied arts and technology

It features a three per cent wage increase retroactive to Sept. 1 2003, half a per cent on April 1, two per cent on Sept. 1 and 1.8 per cent on April 1 2005.

The two main points the union wanted addressed were wages and workload.

OPSEU says the latter has been increasing steadily as the province cut funding to the college system.

As part of the agreement, a task force will be struck to find ways to address the union?s concerns over professor workloads.
