Anna Auger of Sturgeon Falls, and Maxine Rancourt of Sudbury are two students in Cambrian College’s School of Community Services, who are leading a workshop called Stand Up for Social Justice, geared toward elementary school students and other youth in the Greater Sudbury area.

Elementary school students and other youth in the Greater Sudbury area will get a chance to learn more about social justice, and their teachers will be college students.

Two students from Cambrian College are offering a 40-minute workshop on social justice issues to students between grades 5-8, as well as to various youth groups.

The workshop is called Stand Up for Social Justice. It explores a variety of themes including the

history of social justice, self-love and self-care, coping skills, loving the planet, and the history of Pink Shirt Day.

"Personally, I've found this placement to be a true example of how important it is to educate our next generation of adults so that we can help better shape their future and our society with our

knowledge and experiences," said Anna Auger of Sturgeon Falls, who is a student in Cambrian’s Social Services Worker program and one of the students leading this year’s workshop, in a press release.

Cambrian students first taught the Stand Up for Social Justice workshop in 2022.

“It feels incredibly rewarding to be a part of the Stand Up For Social Justice program and to know we are making a positive impact in our community,” adds Maxine Rancourt of Sudbury, who is a student in Cambrian’s Child and Youth Care worker and the co-lead of this year’s workshop.

“Being a part of something larger than myself and contributing to the ongoing movement is truly fulfilling. It's a privilege to be continuing the work of those who came before us and paving the way for a more inclusive and caring future."

The Stand Up for Social Justice workshop is being offered to elementary schools and other youth organizations until the end of April.
