Jazzed Up Downtown

Sept. 18

Check out Jazzed Up Downtown at the corner of Cedar and Durham from 10 a.m. to noon every Saturday this summer. This event features two live local music acts per week, one beginning at 10 a.m. and one at 11 a.m. Sept. 18 features Mark Scherzinger Trio and then Hilltoppers Big Band. Cenotaph dedication

Sept. 18

Dedication of expanded cenotaph at Lockerby Legion (2200 Long Lake Rd), 2 p.m. The expansion project includes paver stones dedicated to legionnaires, veterans and their loved ones as well two granite memorial walls in tribute to deceased veterans who were members of the branch and served their country. Comradeship and a light lunch follow after the ceremony.

Dog show

Sept. 17-19

Sudbury and District Kennel Club presents three days of dog shows at Foothill Farms Equestrian Centre in Chelmsford 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 17-19. Entrance fee $5 per carload. COVID protocols will be observed.

Black Lives Matter Novel Club

Sept. 20

Discuss the chosen club book Gutter Child by Jael Richardson, 7 p.m., then enjoy a special session from the author herself. Virtual event, see blmsudbury.ca to register. 

YES Theatre Live from the Grotto

Extended until Sept. 25

YES Theatre’s Live from the Grotto series runs outdoors at the Grotto until Sept. 19. Features three different concerts (Through Rose Coloured Glasses, Ghosts of Broadway, A Song to the Moon). Two of the concerts, Through Rose Coloured Glasses and A Song to the Moon, will then be presented in the series’ extended run Sept. 22-25 indoors at Sudbury Theatre Centre. Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival

Sept. 18-26

Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival has announced it will return for its 33rd edition Sept. 18-26. As it did last year, Cinéfest Sudbury will use a hybrid in-theatre and virtual format due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Tickets now on sale. Visit Cinefest.com or phone Cinéfest at 705-688-1234.

Sudbury Symphony Crawl

Sept. 25

Stroll the downtown area and enjoy live music by SSO members on outdoor patios and stages, all free of charge. Takes place 2-6:30 p.m., culminating in a performance of Terry Riley’s In C by the orchestra members. Event will primarily take place on Durham Street, with the mainstage located in front of the YMCA at 140 Durham St. However, there will be other locations to listen to live music on Cedar, Larch, and Elgin. Ice hut and chair auction

Bidding open to Sept. 30 

The Cambrian Foundation will be taking to the auction floor and accepting bids on custom-built, hand-painted ice fishing huts and matching chairs. Two 8’ x 8’ ice huts and two Muskoka chairs are being auctioned separately. Bids close September 30. GNO Artist in Residence, Norman Barney’s ‘Connections’

August-October

The Galerie du Nouvel-Ontario (GNO) is welcoming a second artist in residency this summer, with his exhibit running August through October. Norman Barney is a multimedia artist who currently works at his studios in Petrolia and on Manitoulin Island, and this is where his “at home” will be hosted and offered through videos. Barney will share his artistic process from both his studios, as well as his approach as he finds new art materials, maintains his gardens, and walks with his dogs in the forest and along the shores of Windfall Lake. Greater Sudbury Youth Ambassadors pageant

Oct. 16-17

Takes place Oct. 16-17 at Northbury Hotel. Entry fee of $100. Event open to girls aged five to 24 who live in or attend school in all areas of the Sudbury District. Five age categories. Delegates have a chance to be named Little Miss, Miss PreTeen, Junior Miss, Teen and Miss Greater Sudbury Youth Ambassadors 2022. Phone 705-918-4747 for more information.

Delicious Localicious campaign

Oct. 18 to Oct. 31

Participating restaurants will donate $2 to Maison McCulloch Hospice for every meal sold within their fixed price menu. Event runs Oct. 18-31 at Bella Vita Cucina, diGusto, Hardrock, JD Southern Smokehouse, M.I.C., The P & M Kouzzina, Mr. Prime Rib, Verdicchio Ristorante and Tony V’s Pizza & Restaurant. 

Perogies and Cabbage Rolls
