Community unites for United Achievement Awards

United Way and Sudbury Wolves announce new Wolves United partnership

The United Way honoured a number of members of the community on March 9 at the inaugural United Achievement Awards, held at the Sudbury Theatre Centre.

Individuals, families, labour partners and community stakeholders all gathered in the theatre to celebrate the collective acheivements of the award winners.

United Way executive director Michael Cullen also announced a new partnership between the Sudbury Wolves and United way - Wolves United - an initiative aimed at inspiring youth in the community to achieve their best while developing character traits that foster success in life.

During 2016, the United Way Sudbury and Manitoulin districts helped change the lives of 26,680 people within Greater Sudbury, Espanola, and Manitoulin.

"The success of this year's campaign is based on our collective efforts to unite our community and improve social conditions," said 2016 campaign chair Paul Kusnierczyk.

"Our goal this year was about reaching as many people as we could. It's about people helping people."

The award winners on the evening are as follows:

  • Agency Award - YMCA Sudbury
  • Quantum Leap Award - Toromont Cat
  • Most Valuable Participation Award - Reliance Home Comfort
  • Labour Community Advocate Award - Ontario Public Service Employees Union Sudbury
  • Collaborative Community Initiative Awards - Cambrian Ford, Crosstown Chevrolet Buick Cadillac, Palladino Honda, Laurentian Chrysler, New Sudbury Volkswagen, Mid North Mitsubishi, Sudbury Hyundai, Southside Chevrolet Buick GMC, Kia Sudbury Motors
  • Community Giving Awards - FedNor, College Boréal
  • Milestone Achievement Award - Laurentian University
  • Cornerstone Awards - City of Greater Sudbury, Domtar, RBC, Laurentian University, CN Canadian National Railway
  • Community Builder Awards - Canada Revenue Agency, Ontario Public Service
  • Community Leader Awards - Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations, Vale in partnership with United Steelworkers

At the conclusion of the awards ceremony, Kusnierczyk introduced Kevin O'Connor as the 2017 campaign chair.
