Taxpayers are providing $100,000 through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation's renewable energy program to Coniston Industrial Park Limited to conduct wind and environmental studies on the site of the former smelter property in Coniston.

The studies will help determine the feasibility of retrofitting the two dormant 120-metre tall smokestacks with wind powered generation systems.
