The new 20,000 square foot facility will feature a couple of multifunctional workshops, a pair of classrooms, an office and a rest area. The workshops will be used for the heavy equipment mechanics course, the welding and fabricating course as well as apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs.

"There will be an increasing shortage of qualified workers in trades for the next five years. With the creation of a Trades Training and Apprenticeship Centre, we are helping young francophones interested in learning a trade to gain access to training in their mother tongue," said Gisele Chretien, president of College Boreal.

The first phase of construction will cost $3.7 million and is set to open August 2006, in time for the centre's inaugural class.
