The competition culminates in a one-on-one showdown, to take place starting at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Caruso Club. This portion of the competition will be open to the public.

The winner receives $1,000 in cash, a $500 gift card for STOP Restaurant Supply and the right to appear on the cover and in a feature story in the spring 2014 issue of Sudbury Living Magazine.

“People love to eat, and there's a lot of people in Sudbury who are very good cooks,” said Sudbury Living magazine publisher Patricia Mills. “Sudbury's known for a lot of things. Why can't it be known for good cooking as well?”

One of Cook for Me Sudbury's judges is none other than Marida Mohammed, the Sudbury native who was recently named the first runner-up on MasterChef Canada.

“I love to eat, so I'm really excited that I get to try everybody's food,” Mohammed said. “It'll be nice to kind of see what it was like to be in the judges' position, for sure.”

Besides Mohammed, the contest will be judged by Ristorante Verdicchio owner Mark Gregorini, Legacy Catering owner and chef Stephanie Piché and Collège Boréal chef professor Simon Le Hénaff.

Gregorini said he's interested to see what kind of dishes people come up with.
“Sudbury's a very ethnic-based city, and I'd like to see whether there's going to be a lot of integration of a lot of classic ethnic dishes with a modern twist to them,” he said.

The application period to take part in Cook for Me Sudbury is May 20 to June 20. For more information on how to apply, visit www.sudburylivingmagazine.com/cookforme.
