Possible Listeria contamination concerns have promoted a recall from Costco Wholesale Canada Ltd. and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency of Formaggio brand Artisan Wraps Italian Style Meats around Fresh Mozzarella.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product; however, Costco Wholesale Canada Ltd. is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace.

The potentially contaminated product was sold in 675-gram packages between Feb. 13, 2013 and March 11, 2013.

Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled. Consumption of food contaminated with this bacteria may cause listeriosis, a foodborne illness that can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea.

Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. Infected pregnant women may experience only a mild, flu-like illness; however, infections during pregnancy can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn, or even stillbirth.

For more information, consumers and industry can call Costco Wholesale Canada Ltd. at 1-800-463-3783 or the CFIA at 1-800-442-2342.

The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
