Ward 11 Greater Sudbury city council candidate Terry Kett said he's concerned about a water main project on Attlee Street that seems to have stalled.

The homes on the street are currently served by water hoses lying on top of the ground that could freeze any day now, he said.

Kett, who called the situation on the street “chaos,” said that he and area residents have been given a number of stories as to why the project is stalled,

That includes a variety of personnel issues such as the project manager being promoted and that position not having been filled.

“They guaranteed me that the job will be completed this year,” he said in a news release. “Some guarantee if your above ground waterline is frozen! This should never have happened! It’s time for change at city hall.”

City Snafu Re: Attlee St. Project

It’s late October and the temperature is falling fast! Meanwhile, the water main project on Attlee St. has been stopped for over a week. The homes on the street are currently served by water hoses lying on top of the ground that could freeze any day now.

An Attlee St. resident, Robert Loiselle, phoned the city to ask why no one is working on the project. The answer he was given was that the Project Manager has been given a promotion and to date the position has not been filled.

Mr. Loiselle then phoned the mayor’s office and was told that they thought the position was filled but would arrange a meeting on the problem. Mr. Loiselle asked “what would have happened if he hadn’t called?” He did not get an answer.

The Attlee project is a big one with many homes affected by this chaos. When I contacted city staff, I was told a different story: that it is the contractor’s fault, that the some of the Toronto firm’s employees have quit and thus the project is behind schedule. They guaranteed me that the job will be completed this year.

Some guarantee if your above ground waterline is frozen! This should never have happened! It’s time for change at city hall.
